Hiking and Snorkeling Day
We started the trip from Ubud at 8AM. Our first destination would be Sideman Village. We drove on the road along Telaga Waja River and make some stop on the way to enjoy the beautiful valley view and rice field. That time was clove-harvesting season so we saw many cloves being dried on the side of the road. There were few coco beans also being dried.
After the turn in Sangkan Gunung, I made another stop in my favorite viewpoint corner. From here, we can see the whole green valley of Sideman below us. Line of hill surrounds the valley with Mount Agung on the Northern side. A river stream flow from the north to the sea in the south, like dividing the valley into two. As the weather is clear we can see the blue of the Indian Ocean far in the south.
We drove down hill, crossing wooden bride. After parking the car on the side of the road we started hiking. I choose the easy and shorter trek this time considering my guest walking ability. We hiked following the water irrigation canal. Some ladies of the village were doing their laundry and take a bath on the water canal. We tried to hide their naked body to the water as we passed by them. After 15 minutes walk, the walking path getting more muddy and wet. I warned my guest to be careful but one of them lost their balance and felt into the water. She got all wet. I expressed my sorry but she was laughing. She got fun somehow, I guess. However, she wants to continue the hike with wet cloth. We then saw a group of men working together planting the rice. We chat a while to be friendly. Luckily the weather that remain clear so we can still admire the great Mount Agung . It seems getting bigger as we walk closer.
On the way back we decided to walk on the road. We passed the morning market that almost finishes that time. We then visit a family to see the women doing their weaving for ‘songket’ and single ‘ikat’ cloth.
After feel enough learning the traditional weaving process, we continue our day by driving to Blue Lagoon beach via Putung. We had lunch in small and the only restaurant in Putung. After lunch we drive down on the scenic road down to Manggis nd finnaly reach bloolagoon around 2PM. They rent the beach chair and snorkeling gear. The chair was IDR 15,000 and IDR 25,000 for the snorkeling gear. The nice coral are not that fat away from the beach, just about 100 meters. My guest were enjoying their snorkeling and relaxing time at this little quite beach.
We left the beach at 4PM heading back to Ubud. On the way we make another stop to see salt making in Kusamba. In the afternoon is harvesting time for the salt. The salted water that has been dried since morning was becomes crystal already. We bought a bag of that organic slat to bring home.

Been working as a Bali tour guide and driver for over 15 years. Still very much enjoy my work as I meet many different and interesting people. Things on the road are changing all the time and I would like to share some of those that I show. ------
Taking pictures have been a hobby for me for many years. Now, I am still struggling to make that a hobby as a job. Wish me luck please.
Hey Putu this is us, Larry and Dana. That was a great day even though I fell in the water.
We are in Istanbul now with our son David. We have told everyone we know that they should go to Bali and call you.
I have not gotten all my updates on line yet – but they will still come. I promise.
