Dreamland Turning into New Kuta
The name of ‘Dreamland’ was given by the surfer to a beach in Bukit Pecatu areas, south of Bali. It is a small nice beach by the cliff. It has nice white sand and challenging wave for surfer. At one time some years ago was an escaping beach, a dream land.
I was there again a week ago and the place was giving me surprises. The project of the big investor from Jakarta who owns the access to the beach was running again after many years of vacuum. The parking place was changed, the former parking place now becomes golf course. The parking fee is IDR10,000 per car, the most expensive one in Bali. From the parking ticket I noticed, they call the place as Klapa New Kuta, not dreamland anymore.
The path to the beach is now along the edge of the dry river. Row of white modern shops builds just before the beach. Many shops were still empty when we were there. When we reached the beach area, I saw the biggest surprise. They turn down all the wooden huts that been there for many years. Those huts were beach restaurants or even small guesthouse for the surfers and other visitors. Many memories happen on those huts and now its gone. They secluded beach area is gone, the dreamland is gone. The new posh modern beach resort is coming.
A bit disappointed, my client decided not to spend their time in here.
‘Lets go to the new dreamland’ I tease them as we heading to the less visited Padang Padang Beach. Despite from the rainy season, Padang Padang beach was clean enough. The water was clear. We were lucky we had sun that day after few days rain. A perfect beach day especially we were the only tourist there and few local fishermen.

Been working as a Bali tour guide and driver for over 15 years. Still very much enjoy my work as I meet many different and interesting people. Things on the road are changing all the time and I would like to share some of those that I show. ------
Taking pictures have been a hobby for me for many years. Now, I am still struggling to make that a hobby as a job. Wish me luck please.
